Oil Ministry confirm increase of refining capacity
The Oil Ministry confirmed the low proportion of importing oil
derivatives, compared to previous years, referring to the continuing
work on the projects of increasing the oil refining capacity.
The oil minister for refineries and gas processing, Ahmed
Al-shamma', said that new units to increase oil refining capacity is
still under way in Al-Dora and Basra refineries to improve the
gasoline and increase production of oil derivatives, as well as the
rehabilitation of units for hydrogenating gas oil in Baiji refinery.
He added that four new refineries in design stages will be presented
to investors in partnership with the Iraqi government or with the
contribution of private sector companies, including Karbala refinery
with the capacity of 140 thousand a day, in addition to refineries in
Kirkuk, Maysan and Nasiriyah. Al-shamma' explained the reasons for the
reluctance of some small refineries in the discharge of black oil due
to power outages, which lead to the cessation of production at these
refineries.
It is noteworthy that the Ministry of Oil refining opened a new unit
in Najaf refinery, with a production capacity amounting to 10
thousands barrels a day to produce 30 thousand barrels per day, as
well as the opening of a third refining unit in Samawah refinery with
the capacity of 10 thousand barrels per day.
