Talks are on to demarcate the limits of joint oil fields
Sabah Al-Saadi, director of legal and trade affairs department in the Oil Contracts and Licensing Office in the Oil Ministry, confirmed that no clear agreements have been reached on the demarcation of joint oil fields with both Iran and Kuwait.
Al-Saadi said that the ministry is seeking to activate agreements with the neighboring countries; an official delegation has visited Iran to discuss the demarcation of the common fields and there is another committee working with the Kuwaiti side.
Al-Saadi added that the Oil Ministry continues to advertise the fields on the joint border for investment in the second round of licenses such as Majnoon field on the border with Iran and Albatra field in Wasit province, which is also on the border with Iran.
Iraq had entered into discussions with both Iran and Kuwait to remove the dispute over the demarcation of joint oil and gas fields last January; however, a definite agreement has not been reached so far. Meanwhile, the British company "British Petroleum" and the company "China National Oil Company" have won two service contracts to work in Rumaila joint oil field between Iraq and Kuwait during the first round of licensing at the end of last June.
